Week 8 Picks

Everyone has their method for picking teams, whether guessing, picking "upsets", going with the popular team or even complicated statistal algorithms.

The Purpose for Stats

For the past few months, I have been spending most of my time trying to develop methods for studying teams with two purposes in mind. The first is to find accurate ways of representing teams numerically. For instance, Denver has the number one defense because they allow the fewest points per game. The reason the New York Giants are not number one defensively, despite holding teams to the fewest yards per game, is because points allowed are a better indicator of success than yards. However, when doing these studies, I have found that NFL.com and most other sites do stats inaccurately.
